DSA is a community school offering a comprehensive college preparatory program focusing on science, mathematics, and technology. It offers an alternative form of public schooling. DSA is a non-sectarian, non-discriminatory, tuition-free school. However, it is exempt from many public school regulations so that it can pursue an innovative approach that improves student performance. DSA is a small structured school delivering a rigorous, innovative educational program. The first school year (2001-2002) the institution began with grades 6, 7, and 8 with an enrollment of about 230 students. Now, DSA offers high quality education for grades 6 through 12 with an enrollment of more than 500 students.

It was established in Stillwater, Oklahoma in 1999. The Foundation promotes science, mathematics, and educational technology in school environments. Founders of the Foundation are educators from distinguished universities such as the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University.
